About Kyiv Multinational Rotary Club
|
In the fall of 2005 Rotarian Roman Shwed brought together a group of individuals to initiate the start an English speaking Rotary Club in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. After many meetings in different locations and at different times, as well as with a great deal of hard work and effort the group completed all of its paper work and sponsorship of support from other Rotary Clubs both in Ukraine as well as in Holland. When all this preliminary work had been completed, it was clear that Kyiv would have an English speaking Rotary Club. On June 12, 2006 Kyiv Multinational Rotary Club received its charter from the President of Rotary International, Carl Whilhem Stenhammer in a ceremony at the President Hotel in Kyiv. Unlike the other 39 already existent Rotary Clubs in Ukraine, KMRC was the first English speaking Rotary Club in Ukraine. Another aspect which differentiates us from other Rotary Clubs in this country is the composition and the origin of its members. While most Ukrainian Rotary Clubs are composed of Ukrainian nationals, KMRC started out with members from Canada, the Netherlands and the United States of America. Since it's inception KMRC has added members from Australia, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. This was in fact part of the design and overall intent of the initiative group and it was with purpose to do a number of things.

First of all it was recognized that there were Rotarians who were working in Ukraine, in a number of different professions, who were no longer involved in Rotary at the level they were in their home countries, primarily due to that they were linguistically challenged, as all Rotary Club meeting in this country are conducted in either Ukrainian or Russian. Secondly, in bringing together Rotarians and those who understood the aims and principles of Rotary, as potential Rotarians, it was understood that together we could accomplish a number of things to benefit the community in which we are operating being the following: · As nationals from different countries we would be able to network with fellow Rotarians in our home countries to work together to accomplish our common goals; · We can and will, eventually, change the mentality towards philanthropic organizations such as Rotary in this country; · We could and will, eventually, change the mentality towards philanthropic organizations such as Rotary in this country. Thirdly, understanding the close to 100-year history of Rotary was upon us, charter members felt that we would be able to promote the values of Rotary during this period.
